Navigating the diverse landscape of Windows settings can often unlock enhancements in system performance and user experience. Microsoft’s Windows 11 and 10 are no exceptions, providing users with an array of customization options for a more tailored experience. Among these are a plethora of visual effects and animations. Not only do these animations add aesthetic flair, but they also offer a perceptual metric of your computer’s responsiveness. One such tweakable feature is the speed of menu animations. If you’re keen on maximizing your system’s visual efficiency, understanding how to speed up these menu animations can be a game-changer.
Delving into the intricacies of Windows, you might notice that it conventionally takes 400 milliseconds (with 1000 milliseconds equating to 1 second) for a sub-menu to emerge when you hover over any menu item. This delay is attributed to the animation effects set by default. However, by diving into the Registry, users have the flexibility to modify this timing to their preference. How to achieve this fine-tuning will be the focal point of our forthcoming risewindows article.
Use the following steps to speed up menu animations on Windows 11 or 10:-
Step 1: First, go to the Registry Editor on your computer.
Step 2: In the left sidebar of the Registry Editor window, browse the following:-
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
Step 3: Edit the “Value data” of MenuShowDelay REG_SZ by double-clicking on it on the right-side pane.
Step 4: It will set the menu animation duration to 400 milliseconds (1000 milliseconds = 1 second). However, if you want to speed it up, you can change the value to something lesser than 400, say, 100. If you do not want any delay in the sub-menu pop-up, set the “MenuShowDelay” value as 0.
Step 5: Click on OK.
The menu will start appearing when you have set it after completing all the above steps.
How to Completely Disable Animations on Windows 11 or 10?

Step 2: As the window opens, look for the Advanced tab and go to Settings under the “Performance” section.
