How to Set Main Display in Windows 11?

Optimizing Multi-Display Experience in Windows 11/10

In the evolving landscape of computing, multi-monitor setups have become increasingly popular, providing users with expanded screen real estate and enhanced productivity. Windows 11 readily supports this trend with its built-in feature to connect and utilize additional displays. When more than one display is linked to a Windows PC, each is numerically labeled—1, 2, and so on—to help users distinguish between them. A pivotal aspect of this setup is designating one of these displays as the main or primary screen. This main display becomes the hub of activity, housing the taskbar, clock, and corner icons. Moreover, it’s on this primary screen that the sign-in interface appears, and any applications or files you launch will, by default, open on this main display. This guide will elucidate the steps to set your preferred display as the main one, ensuring a tailored experience for all Windows 11 users.

How to Set or Change Main Display in Windows 11?

When using extended mode in Windows 11 and want to see one display as a primary, go for these steps:-

Step 1. Open the Settings app.

Step 2. Then, select System when the Settings window opens. After that, click on the Display tile.

Step 3. Next, on the Display settings page, Windows will show connected displays. Select the option Extend these displays if not already done.

Step 4. After that, select the monitor you want to set as your primary display. Then check the box “Make this my main display.”

After these steps, Windows will immediately switch your app icons and make that your main display.

Alternatively, to transfer an opened window from one monitor to another, press and hold the app’s title bar and drag that to the extreme top right corner of the display. You can also move your mouse pointer from one monitor to another by dragging it to extreme top right corner.

Following the steps outlined in this article, you can set or change the main display for all users and customize your desktop experience. Additionally, the article provides an alternative method to transfer opened windows from one monitor to another.
