How to Make Mozilla Firefox Your Default Browser on Windows 11.

On Windows 11, the digital frontier of Microsoft’s latest operating system, Microsoft Edge reigns supreme as the default portal for internet exploration, launching web links, and viewing PDF documents. However, users aren’t confined to this experience. Whether you’re a Google Chrome enthusiast or an ardent supporter of Mozilla Firefox, Windows 11 offers the flexibility to designate your preferred browser as the default. If you’re leaning towards Mozilla Firefox, known for its speed, customization options, and open-source nature, this guide will provide a succinct walkthrough. Bypassing the conventional route of delving into Windows 11’s Settings app, we’ll illuminate a more direct pathway to set Firefox as your default browser on Windows 11.

How to Set Firefox Default Browser on Windows 11?

By default, Windows 11 uses Edge as a default browser. But to set Mozilla Firefox as the preferred browser, use the following:-

Step 1. Firstly, install the Mozilla Firefox browser on your computer if you have already done so.

Step 2. Now, when the installation is completed, open the Windows 11 Settings app.

Step 3. Then, click on the Apps category from the left sidebar.

Step 4. Next, on the right sidebar, select Default apps.

Step 5. After that, scroll down a bit and click Firefox.

Step 6. You will find that Microsoft Edge is selected as the default app for the “.htm” and other extensions. Click on Microsoft Edge to replace it with the Firefox browser.

Step 7. Now, click the link Switch anyway.

Step 8. When prompted with “How you want to open .htm files from now on,” select Firefox in the available options and then click the OK button.

Mozilla is now the default application for a .htm file on your Windows 11 PC.

For the other file types, you need to repeat the above steps if you want to open them also with the Mozilla Firefox application:-

  • .HTML
  • .pdf
  • .shtml
  • .svg
  • .webp
  • .xht
  • .FTP
  • .HTML
  • .HTTPS

Conclusion

Switching to Mozilla Firefox as your default browser on Windows 11 is a straightforward process. By following the above steps, users can easily divert from the pre-set Microsoft Edge browser to their preferred Firefox experience. The power of choice remains with the user, and Windows 11’s flexibility ensures that personal preferences are met with ease.
