Ensuring Privacy: Password-Protecting Edge and Chrome on Windows 11 and 10. As a Windows user, you’ve likely equipped your system with anti-virus software to shield it from threats. But how about securing your browser experience? For those wanting an added layer of privacy on their web browsers, this article offers a guide to password-protecting both Edge and Chrome. While neither browser natively offers this feature, the free Browser Lock extension bridges this gap. Compatible with both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, this add-on ensures no one can access your open tabs without inputting the set password. Moreover, every time you launch a new window, the extension will prompt a password request. Want a locked browsing session in InPrivate or incognito mode? This extension has got you covered.
How to password-protect Edge browser?
To password-protect Edge browser, follow these steps:-
Step 1: First, go to the Edge browser and navigate to the microsoftedge.microsoft.com page to download and set up the Browser Lock extension.
Step 2: To download on your computer, click on the Get button.
Step 3: Click on the Add extension button in the dialogue box.
Step 4: The Edge browser will now open a new tab. Your email address and password must be entered. To save the settings, click on the Save button at the end.
Step 5: You will see a pop-up message that says, “Registration has been completed.”
Step 6: Click on OK.
Note: You can enable “Deep Security” here, which will lock your browser login after three unsuccessful login attempts for three minutes. Even you can choose the Dark Mode theme. It changes your password using a recovery email if you forget it at the primary login. You can also set the “Clear History” feature in this Add-on to remove the browser history after 3 wrong login attempts.
Step 7: Re-open the Edge browser after closing it. To access a webpage, Edge will ask you for your password. You can open the Edge browser once you enter the password.
Step 8: Select Browser Lock/Lock Your Browser from the menu that appears when you right-click on a webpage and choose to lock it immediately.
Step 9: The webpage will be secured immediately, and accessing it requires entering the password you set up in the previous step.
You can Lock or Unlock your Edge browser to prevent prying eyes by following the instructions above.
How to protect your Chrome browser with a password?

The Chrome browser is opened in a new tab where the primary password and email address are entered. Finally, enter your recovery email address and password before clicking the Save button to save your settings.
Note that every feature and choice is equivalent to its Edge extension. You can enable “Deep Security” here, which will lock your browser login after three unsuccessful login attempts for 3 minutes. The Dark Mode theme can be chosen that changes your password with the help of a recovery email if you forget it at the primary login. To delete the browser history after three unsuccessful login attempts, you can enable or disable the Clear History functionality in this Add-on.
