How to obtain computer hardware specs using the Settings app?

You can go to the “About” page in the System settings and find out the basic information like the processor, memory, and Windows details. Follow through the following steps:-

Step 1: Go to the taskbar and click on the Start button. Find the Settings icon to open the Settings app.

Step 2: Click on the System category in the Windows Settings.

Step 3: Scroll down and click on the About tab in the left-side menu of the System category.

Step 4: You will find information like the processor, installed system memory (RAM), architecture (32-bit or 64-bit), and “Pen and touch support” in the Device specifications section.

Step 5: Check below the “Device specifications” section. Here, you will find the “Windows specifications” section that will display the Edition, Version, Installed on, OS build, and Experience of your Windows system.

  • Edition – This display, if you have installed Windows 10 Pro or Windows 10 Home Edition.
  • Version – It tells you about the Windows release currently installed on the computer.
  • Installed on – You can view the date when the last “feature update” was installed on your computer.
  • OS build – You can find the technical build number for your Windows 10 release. The first five numbers you see talk about the version and post that shows the latest quality update installed on your computer.
  • Experience – It reveals the service feature pack installed on your device.

The settings app consists of your computer’s fundamental and technical specifications. You also get a Copy button under every section to save the information.

How to get computer specifications using System Information?

You have the System Information application available on your Windows OS, irrespective of your version. It helps you to fetch your machine’s complete device technical specifications. You can also get the hardware specification using the System Information application. To do that, you will have to perform the following steps:-

Step 1: First, open the Run command box with the Windows Logo + R key combination on your system. Then, type msinfo32 and press Enter to launch the System Information app.

Step 2: Look for the System Summary category from the left side pane and select it. You will find all the information there, like OS Name, Version, System Manufacturer, System Model, System Type, Processor Brand, BIOS Version, BIOS Mode, Windows Directory, RAM, Motherboard brand, and virtualization support.

You can also expand the category and dig deep into the details of your system. For example, if you want to see the Adapter installed on your computer, go to the Adapter entry in the Components category. It will show you the details of the Adapter.

You also get a search option at the bottom of the page. Use it to search for specific information.

A report with the hardware and software specifications will be created by the System Information tool that you can use for any future reference. You can do it manually by clicking on File and going to the Export option in the System Information window.

Type a file name and select where you want to save the System Information.

As the final step, click on the Save button to save everything in our system. The process may take a few seconds to complete.

After completing the above steps, all specifications will be exported into a text file. You can go to the notepad and view it.

How to find computer or laptop specs using the DirectX Diagnostic Tool?

The DirectX Diagnostic tool can be used to troubleshoot different system problems that you may have on your Windows 10 system. You can also view all the specifications and information about the software on your computer. You can even view other details similar to the ones you see on the “About” page in the settings. To view your computer specs using the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, do the following steps:-

Step 1: First, click on the Start button and type dxdiag. After that, click on dxdiag in the search results to open the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.

Step 2: Next, click on the System tab. Here, you can view the computer tech specs in the “System information” section, including operating system version, system manufacturer, system model, processor manufacturer and core, memory (RAM), BIOS, or UEFI version.

Step 3: Next, find the Display tab under the Device section and select it. You can see the technical information for the graphics or video card, such as the name and manufacturer of the graphics card, display memory (VRAM), chip, etc.

Step 4: In the Sound tab, you can find the sound card manufacturer and other details.

Step 5: You can save all the information with the option “Save All Information.”

Step 6: It will ask you to type a name for the file and finalize a location where you want to save it. Finally, click on the Save button.

Once you complete the above steps, your system information will be saved on your computer. You can access it with a Notepad or similar application.

How to check or view the PC’s full specifications on Windows 10 using PowerShell?

You can retrieve your system information using PowerShell. Just follow the following steps:-

Step 1: Go to the Start button on the taskbar and type PowerShell. Right-click on the Windows PowerShell entry in the search results, and select the Run as administrator option.

Step 2: Type the following command and press Enter from the keyboard:-


After completing the other steps, you can find the complete system information of your computer, like the BIOS, processor, Windows version, etc.

On a side note, select all of the text from PowerShell and copy it if you want to save the information. Go to the desired location and press the Ctrl + V combination on your computer to paste it.

How to find computer specs using Command Prompt?

You can use the Command Prompt to find any Windows computer’s complete tech specs. To find the computer hardware and software details, perform the following steps:-

Step 1: Click on the Start button and type cmd. From the available results, right-click on the Command Prompt app and select Run as administrator.

Step 2: To view the system information, type the following command, and press Enter:-


On a side note, you can save a copy of the Command Prompt output. To do that, select the whole text of Command Prompt, right-click from the mouse, and copy the text. Now, open the Notepad or Word document and paste it there. You can access these from the notepad at any point in time.

You can see the system information once you are done with all the above steps. For example, the computer’s hardware and software, including Windows 10 update information, system architecture, BIOS or UEFI, Memory (RAM), network, and other details.
